The Future of Missions - Part 1
Special Forces Missionaries
As the General Overseer of JGLM, I am responsible for the direction of the ministry. There are many people who would tell me to take the ministry in certain directions if I want the ministry to grow or to operate in a professional manner. But if you have been in any of my meetings, you know that we have never done anything the "right way", meaning, "the way the church world does things".
Recently, I have been even more directly challenged by God concerning the direction we are to go.
We have always been a missionary organization, but recently God has impressed me to push harder in that direction.
While looking at how missions are conducted today, I was introduced to a book that I would strongly suggest that every reader should read.
The book is called: "Revolution in World Missions". It is written by K.P. Yohannan. (We carry the book and it can be ordered from us for $5.00 per copy.) The essence of the book's message is this:
1. True, Gospel preaching missionaries must be produced.
2. Most countries are either closed or closing to Western born missionaries.
3. Western-born missionaries cost thousands of dollars more to train, send, and support, than indigenous missionaries cost.
All of these statements are true.
So what is the answer? Should we, as western born Christians stop
going to preach the Gospel, and just send money instead? Some would say so.
I do not believe that to be the way to go.
Most American Christians have forgotten more theology than "third world" people have ever heard.
This is not a western superiority attitude. It is an indictment on every western-born Christian. We may "know more" but we are doing less.
The strategy that I believe God has given me, and thus the JGLM mandate is to train western-born Christians in a short-term Bible School that is specifically geared toward preparing them for mission work.
Don't get "religious" on me. Rather change your definition of a missionary and your definition of the mission field.
First, to be a Missionary you do not have to go to a foreign country.
Second, the whole world is a mission field to a Christian.
We are going to train Christians to be trainers of missionaries.
We are going to teach Christians how to "visit" a country and stay long enough to reach and train indigenous people to reach and train their fellow countrymen.
We are going to raise up small teams of Missionaries (approx. 4 per team) to go into an area and teach the locals enough to get them out doing the works of Jesus. Then the team will either return to the U.S. or relocate to another part of the country. We will provide them (the Missionaries and the locals) with the materials they will need to get the job done. This is a slight twist on the original purpose of the Green Beret / Special Forces teams that were sent into various countries around the world.
Our teams will have the same committment, discipline, and effectiveness. but their weapons will not be carnal, but spiritual.
They will not be seeking to overthrow the physical government, but rather the spiritual principalities of the country.
The charter class will receive special individualized training from various people that have proven their ability to get results.
Anyone volunteering for this class must have their passport at the time of application. They must also move to the Dallas, Texas area.
There will be no fees charged by JGLM for this training. (Some fees may be necessary to receive certain specialized training.)
We are believing that God has 800 people chosen for this specific training.
Those who know God has called them to remain as Missionaries to the U.S. will also be trained.
We will send a team into a certain area of a country, they will each reach (evangelize) 1-3 local people, then they (the locals) will be trained to teach other locals, the essentials of Christianity. On-going training materials will also be provided for the locals.
When the team is ready to leave, they will turn the work (the Bible School, church, etc.) over to the locals. The finances that were going to the team will be redirected to the local (indigenous) leadership. The team will then be returned to the U. S. or go to their next duty station.
This is the future of missions.
The same approach will be applied to missions in North America.
I will be leading many of these teams. The usual length of stay for the Team will be around 90 days.
Any persons wishing to join this team must raise their own support (though we will help all we can), their support includes their room and board here in the U.S. during training and "down time", the cost of tickets to and from the mission field, and their room and board while they are on the mission field.
We will still hold DHT training schools around the U.S. and the world.
We will still have our local church here in Dallas.
If you have any questions you may write to me at: specops2005@hotmail.com (please keep all emails to this address directed toward the content of this article.)
You are blessed. Believe it and act like it.
